Dependability is Key
Maybe you are taking the family to go shopping at Magnolia Market on a Saturday afternoon, and you want to use the payload bed in your truck to haul all of your purchases. You could be going fishing on Lake Waco, and need a truck that is strong enough to tow your boat trailer. Or maybe you’d like to do some tailgating before the kickoff of a Baylor home game. What brings all these activities together is the pickup truck, the one vehicle that can serve all these purposes. The last thing you want to have happen is for your truck to break down. Imagine crossing the Waco Suspension Bridge in rush hour, towing your trailer, and when you are halfway over the Brazos River, your truck just gives up. That is not a position any one of us wants to ever be in.
How Do You Make Sure This Doesn’t Happen to You?
Let’s face it, anyone can sell you a used truck. You can buy from your neighbor, or check online through sites like Craig’s List and Marketplace. You can stop off at one of those used car dealers downtown with all the pennants and flashing lights, and you can even go to the Waco Police Department’s abandoned and impounded vehicles auction. But do you really know what you are getting? Yes, there will be a VIN number, but that is pretty much it. Most of the time, when you buy a used truck from the guy on the street, it is “as is,” which translates into buyer beware. This is not the case when you purchase from us at Frank Kent Country. Buying from a quality used truck dealership like ours will give you the peace of mind that your used truck will safely perform as advertised. Each of our used trucks is high quality and has been well maintained by our staff of Chevy experts.
Buying Used is the Most Cost-Effective Option
Buying a new truck might seem like the best option, but if you look closer at the money involved, used trucks actually give you the best value. Let’s take an example. If you are in the market for a Chevy Silverado 1500 LT with a crew cab and a short bed, you are looking at an MSRP of over $45,000 for a new, 2020 model. You can get the same configuration for over $10,000 less if you buy a used 2019 Chevy Silverado with low mileage. That is a savings of almost twenty-five percent for just one year of usage. This is because trucks, like all other motor vehicles, take their biggest depreciation hit in their first year on the road. When you buy new, you are seeing anywhere from twenty to fifty percent of your equity in your truck disappear in just the first twelve to eighteen months. Buying used means that you don’t have to suffer that depreciation hit.
Another advantage comes from insuring your truck. When you buy a new truck, you have to take out gap insurance (depending on your home state) to make up for the difference in the price you paid for the new truck and its value at the time of the theft or accident. Basically, it is the “gap” caused by the major depreciation of the vehicle. This is not the case with used trucks because the depreciation has already happened.
Finally, if you are financing your truck, buying new means that there is a strong chance that your loan will be under water. No, this doesn’t mean that we are going to submerge your truck in the Brazos River. But, what it does mean is that you are paying more on your loan than your truck is actually worth. Again, this is caused by the depreciation in the new truck’s value. When you buy used, the depreciation has already been factored in, so your loan-to-value ratio remains constant. Nobody wants to pay more and get less. Buying used will make sure this does not happen.
Used Chevy Trucks Are the Way to go
No other truck company offers as many trims, options, and models as Chevy. The two current models are the Colorado and Silverado. The Chevy Colorado is a midsize pickup that has been manufactured since 2003. This is an excellent choice for folks who use their trucks for light-duty, or love the truck lifestyle but want to get better mileage and are more comfortable with a smaller vehicle. The Colorado comes in an extended cab with long box, or Crew Cab with either standard or long box, and there are currently six different trim levels to choose from. The Silverado comes in 1500, 2500 HD, and 3500 HD. The Chevy Silverado 1500 has eight different trim levels and four different configurations, regular cab, double cab with standard or long bed, and Crew Cab with standard or long bed. The Chevy Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD feature five different trims and come in Crew Cab configuration with either standard or long bed. You should have little problem finding the used Chevy Colorado or Silverado in the trim level and configuration you desire.
For older models, you should still be able to find used Chevy Avalanches for sale. These were manufactured up to the 2013 model year, so you may still be able to find some of these fun crossover-type trucks, affording you the advantages of a pickup truck with the creature comforts and roominess of an SUV.
Many of the used Chevy trucks come with the excellent Chevrolet Infotainment system. This is a great combination of entertainment features and informational devices, all on a user-friendly color touchscreen. Newer models will have an AM/FM six-speaker stereo, rear vision camera for safety, Bluetooth connectivity, and either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, depending on your smartphone’s operating system. Some will even have Chevy’s unique Teen Driver system, a great way for families with young drivers to make sure they are properly driving the truck.
