When you’re looking for fun and adventure, a pickup is always able to deliver. It’s one of the reasons why here at Frank Kent Country, we love everything about the GMC trucks for sale we have on the lot. There’s a truck for heading to the lake and trucks to go off-roading. We have trucks for towing campers and trucks for hauling gear out to the big cookout. Because let’s face it, having a pickup is more than just owning a true work vehicle. It can also be the ultimate fun vehicle. So while we can help connect you with the optimal trucks for fun, here are just a few of our personal favorite Waco locations to take your truck to.

Brazos Park East

3516 N. MLK Jr. Blvd

There are plenty of city parks spread throughout Waco. This one, in particular, is one of our favorites because there are so many activities. Sure, you can come for the day and picnic or take advantage of the horseshoe pits and other playing fields. Of course, you can also load up your boat and bring it out to take out on the Brazos River. If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to break out the canoes, kayaks, or other small boats, this is a great opportunity to do just that.

Don’t have a boat? Not a problem. If you head out to the Brazos River and Paddling Trails Cameron Drive location, you can rent out kayaks for the trails. There are two river loops you can take part in. The Bosque Bluffs Paddling Trail is 2.2 miles and the Brazos Bridges Paddling Trail is 4.8 miles.

Make sure to check out the park website as well. There are a number of larger activities that do take place here throughout the year. Currently, there is a 5K Run for Autism set for Saturday, April 25, and “The Best 5K on the Brazos” set for Saturday, May 2. If you want to take part in those events, donate, or just want to make sure you head to the park when it is less busy, the website will have all your answers.

Cameron Park

2601 N. University Parks Dr.

You’ll find a little bit of everything right here. As one of the largest parks in the entire state of Texas, you know you’ll find something to do. If you’re into fishing, you can fish here. If you want to hit the bike trails, you can bring your bikes out. There are two rivers for kayaking, plenty of space for lounging about in the grass for games with the kids. You can also play disc golf or really do anything else you might want to do.

If you have a horse and have been looking for a trail, there are specially marked horse trails in Cameron Park. Do note that these horse trails are not designed for ATVs, so if you’re looking for a bit of off-roading fun, you’ll need to go to a different location.

The bike trails are made up of 20 miles that cut through Camera Park. There are some light options and more intensive trails. Now, there are all kinds of races and runs that take place at Cameron Park throughout the year, so make sure to check out the Cameron Parks Trails website if you are planning anything major. The park is large enough for you to enjoy yourself and your time while events are taking place, but it is helpful when planning ahead for parking.

Buena Vista Park

2001 Madera Dr

When you want a secret little spot to go fishing that isn’t going to have a ton of traffic, Buena Vista Park is an excellent little hot spot. It is filled with trout during the colder months of the year, so bring your fishing line and a chair. Because of the smaller size of the park, it never gets too crowded. There is even some playground equipment and picnic options around. There are also several paved trails around the park so you can go for nice walks or ride your bike. So whenever you want something a bit low key but surprisingly full of fun activities, Buena Vista Park is an excellent option to consider.

Woodway Park

Estates Dr.

Woodway Park is a larger park that is part of the city’s park system. It offers a disc-golf course, plenty of picnic table options, plus two pavilions. The pavilions can be used by anyone, although it is possible to reserve these locations through the city website if you are planning a party or other event, and you want to make sure you have a roof overhead in case of the weather.

Beyond all of that, there is also a boat launch at the park. It’s an excellent destination for most of your boating needs. It’s also large enough for you to bring out the speed boat and have some fun cutting over the top of the lake. You’ll also find some city baseball fields and BBQ pits as well. If you’ve been looking for a spot to set up your family reunion, graduation party, or any other large gathering, this is a fantastic spot to take advantage of.

Lake Waco

Speaking of waterways, if you have a boat or just want a spot to kick back and relax near water, Lake Waco is the spot to be. There are also a number of secondary parks that connect to Lake Waco. Woodway Park, as mentioned above, does feet into Lake Waco and is one of the many boat launch sites. The Lake Waco Wetlands and Carleen Bright Arboretum are also hot spots for activities found off of the lake. This way, even if you don’t have a boat, you can take in some of the other activities.

Lake Waco is officially a reservoir that formed with the damming of the Bosque River. The lake is also an exceptional fishing destination. When the city of Waco raised the water level back in the mid-2000s, it helped bolster the fishing potential. Now, there are a number of docks you can head out to, or you can take your boat onto the water. If you are interested in fishing updates with the lake or want to know of specific docks that might be open closest to you (different docks have different hours of operation), make sure to check out the Fishing Lake Waco website run by the Texas state government.

Your Adventure Is Just A Pickup Away

You can go to most of these local Waco hotspots with your car or SUV. But you’ll be leaving some of the adventure back home. You simply won’t have the truck bed to add in the gear, or the towing power, or possibly the off-roading capabilities you might need. A pickup is one of the most versatile vehicles you can own, which is exactly why we love them here at Frank Kent Country. So if you’re looking for the ultimate in outdoor adventure and want a truck built for work and for play, we have the answer you’re looking for right here in the form of a GMC truck. So pay us a visit. When you leave, you’ll be ready for your next great outdoor adventure.
