Get Ready for the State Fair of Texas
Although there is a lot to see and do in the Dallas area year-round, few events are as big and exciting as the State Fair of Texas. This year looks to be bigger than ever before, with hundreds of different events and attractions over the course of three incredible weeks. Of course, as your Chevy dealer near Dallas, we are especially excited for the Texas Auto Show at the Fair, as well as the Chevrolet Ride & Drive event, which returns this year with some absolutely stunning vehicles for you to try out.
Although you’re going to have to wait a bit before the State Fair of Texas starts, you can buy tickets or season passes right now. Once the Fair begins, you will be able to purchase tickets still online and save some money compared to the price at the gate. Whether you are interested in eating until you can barely walk or shopping through a fantastic selection of artists and vendors, the State Fair of Texas has something for everyone. And the shows that are going to be on the Chevrolet Main Stage throughout the event will have something for just about every musical taste.
New Shows and Returning Favorites for 2019
Although there are some fantastic returning events and shows coming to the State Fair of Texas this year, there are also some interesting first-time events to check out. The “World of Birds Show presents: SOAR!” is one show that we are particularly excited about. This has been a Fair favorite in years past but has been absent for the last six years. It combines education and information about birds with spectacular feats of aerial acrobatics by these fantastic feathered performers.
The “Mighty Mike Show” is a hilarious combination of old-school strongman stunts and modern sensibilities. Mighty Mike offers a unique sense of humor while performing remarkable feats like bending iron bars and juggling bowling balls to create a show unlike any other. The “Splashdance!” show also looks like a fascinating approach to performance, combining dancing and acrobatics with the Esplanade fountains. This creates a unique blend of dance and water that will entertain audiences of all ages.
We’re very excited to see the “All-Star Stunt Dog” show return to the State Fair of Texas, with some of the most talented furry performers in the world. All of these dogs are shelter rescues that have been trained to perform all kinds of tricks, from jumping rope to barrel racing. “Big Tex’s Farmyard” provides a great combination of hands-on experiences and education about farm life and agriculture. This is a vital subject presented in a way that makes farming interesting and accessible for young people.
The Chevrolet Main Stage
One of the biggest attractions at the State Fair of Texas this year will be at the Chevrolet Main Stage, with musical performances every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during the Fair. The performances on the main stage are provided for free to anyone who has purchased a ticket or season pass, with no additional fee to see the show. There are more than a dozen different acts scheduled, with something for just about everyone.
For example, it all kicks off on Friday, September 27th with the inimitable Rick Springfield (if your name is Jessie, maybe don’t bring your girl to this show). Sunday, September 29th features La Maquinaria Norteña, with their unique approach to regional Mexican music that blends saxophone, accordion, and electric bass. You can catch Daughtry on Saturday, October 5th and for all you country fans out there, Billy Ray Cyrus will be performing on Sunday, October 13th. What more could you want?
The Chevrolet Ride & Drive Event
One of the events at the State Fair of Texas that we’re most excited about is this year’s Chevrolet Ride & Drive event. Located in Chevrolet Park, northeast of the Top o’ Texas Tower and the Fair Midway, the Ride & Drive event is an excellent opportunity to see what Chevrolet has to offer. That’s right all you Ford fans out there, it’s time to see what you’ve been missing and experience the thrill and power provided by driving a Chevy.
The Chevrolet Ride & Drive event is available every day the Fair is open, from 10 am to 7 pm on Mondays through Thursdays, and from 9 am to 7 pm on Fridays through Sundays. This event is entirely free of charge with admission to the Fair and does not require any coupons like a lot of the other events at the Fair. There are two different tracks for you to choose from, depending on what kind of vehicle you want to drive.
You can choose a Corvette or Camaro and take a spin around the test track to see just how good these powerful sports cars feel. Or pick either the Chevy Colorado or Silverado and have a go at the challenging obstacle course that shows just how much muscle these trucks are packing under their hoods. The tracks will be closed if the weather makes for unsafe driving conditions but otherwise, are available for drivers 18 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license. A guest can ride along with a driver, but must be 13 years of age or older and at least 4’9″ to ride along with a friend or family member.
The Texas Auto Show
Of course, as your Chevy dealer near Texas, the event we are most excited for is the Texas Auto Show at the State Fair of Texas. This event goes on for the duration of the Fair and is the largest auto show in the southwestern US – showcasing 400 of the latest and most impressive vehicles. Featured vehicles will be presented by more than a dozen manufacturers, including Buick, GMC, and Chevrolet.
Don’t limit yourself to just the vehicles inside the Auto Show, however, as stepping outside will take you to the Truck Zone, where you can see the biggest and most powerful pickups on the road in their natural habitat. The Texas Auto Show was established in 1913 and remains one of the premier auto shows for manufacturers to connect with their customers and show off their best vehicles. Best of all, admission to the Texas Auto Show is completely free with general admission to the State Fair of Texas.
