Brand New Features on 2020 GMC SUVs
Are you looking for a new SUV? General Motors Company builds some of the best on the road today. Designed with luxury, performance, and comfort all in mind, GMC SUVs lead the industry in several categories and continually come out with new features and performance enhancements. At Frank Kent Country, you’ll not only find the newest models and trim packages but also the latest features from GMC. If you’re considering the purchase or lease of a new vehicle but want to know what sets it apart, here are some of the new features for 2020.
What’s New on the 2020 Terrain
The Terrain is GMC’s mid-size crossover SUV. It seats up to five comfortably and offers a number of excellent trim packages, including the industry-leading Denali. One of the biggest new features for 2020 is the 1.5L Turbocharged engine that comes in the SLE and SLT Terrain packages. Should you decide to go with the Denali, the engine option is a 2.0L turbocharged engine, which also is new for 2020. On the Denali, there is also a hands-free programmable power liftgate. So if you’ve ever wished your liftgate would perform in a certain way without you fumbling around for the keys or internal controls, the Denali trim is your answer.
The 2020 Terrain also comes with several new safety features that come standard in all the trim packages. From steering and control features to more internal hardware, the 2020 GMC Terrain is as safe as it has ever been. Some of the new safety features you will find on all of the trim packages includes automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision alert, and lane-keep assist.
Now, if you’re interested in a diesel engine, you will need to look at the 2019 editions (now is the perfect time to shop for a 2019 GMC). For 2020 GMC stopped offering a diesel engine with the all-wheel-drive option. So while you can find it on the front-wheel-drive SLE and SLT models, if you were interested in the upgraded trim packages, you’ll either need to go with the FWD option or look at the 2019 models.
What’s New On the 2020 GMC Acadia
The 2020 GMC Acadia has received several new styling updates and tweaks. You’ll notice the biggest difference is on the front end of the SUV. It now has a larger grille, which shares a similar look and design of the larger SUVs and pickups. This gives the SUV a more aggressive, forceful look over the 2019 edition. The rear of the SUV also has a squared-off design, which helps make it look more like the back of GMC’s pickups.
If you were a fan of the older All Terrain trim package on the 2019, you will find that has now been replaced with the AT4. GMC replaced most of the All Terrain packages with its AT4 as the trim right under the Denali. On the Acadia, the 2020 AT4 is all black (with a black grille, black side mirrors, and black chrome around the vehicle). Much like the 2020 Terrain, the Acadia now comes with a hands-free power liftgate on the Denali trim package. The Denali also comes with a more powerful turbocharged engine.
The 2020 GMC Acadia also received a new paint job option, which GMC calls “Red Mahogany Metallic.” It is a very interesting color, which feels almost deep burgundy wine mixed with plum. It is a fun, sophisticated look, especially when paired with several of the trim options that offer chrome touches and accents. Additionally, on the outside, you will find LED headlights as standard (that had been only an upgrade option on the 2019). Under the hood, the SUV also comes with a standard 9-speed automatic, which had again been an upgrade on the 2019 models.
What’s New On the 2020 Yukon
The 2020 Yukon, more or less, remains the same as the 2019 edition. There are a handful of minor tweaks, but if you liked the 2019 edition, you’ll find the 2020 shares many of these similar features. This includes a powerful V8 capable of putting out up to 420 horsepower and an internal seating design that has room for up to eight passengers. Most of the changes to the Yukon are being held back for the 2021 model year when GMC will release its all-new fifth-generation of the full-size SUV.
If you were interested in the “Pepperdust Metallic” look, which is right in the middle of a champagne and silver color, you will want to look at the current 2019 editions here at Frank Kent Country, as GMC stopped using the color option for its 2020 release. However, GMC did replace it with a new color called Carbon Black Metallic. It doesn’t have the goldish-tint to it, but it has a nice color tone that feels part gray, part silver, and part black, all rolled into one.
What To Expect From GMC In Years To Come
These are the three current SUVs sold by GMC. The three SUVs are all in the middle of vehicle generation life spans. Typically the biggest shifts in technology and features come at the introduction of a new generation. It is believed the GMC Yukon fifth-generation will come out for the 20201 model year. It had originally been believed to come out this year, but GMC has a few features it is working out, which pushed back the new generation to 2021. The GMC Acadia is in its second-generation (released initially in 2017). As the first-generation model lasted for a good decade, an updated, all-new generation for the Acadia is not expected for several years.
As for the GMC Terrain, the second-generation release came out in 2018, so the current generation will remain for some time. The previous first-generation lasted from 2010 through 2017, so there are likely several more years remaining before a complete refresh. The Yukon is the only SUV in the lineup at GMC that will likely receive a new generation update at any point soon. Of course, if you’re looking for a new full-size SUV, the current Yukon is an exceptional buy and comes with several industry-leading features, especially on the top-tier Denali trim.
