Attack the Trail With an All-new 2021 GMC Canyon AT4
Off-road enthusiasts have been clamoring for General Motors to come out with a midsize truck dedicated to hills and trails. Sure, you could always spring for an off-road package or get your vehicle modified after you leave the dealership. However, there is nothing like a vehicle that has been designed from the ground up for off-road performance and carries that look from the front bumper to the tailgate and all the way inside the cab. Well, the wait is over because here comes the 2021 Canyon AT4, the first-ever AT4 offering in the Canyon. This is a GMC Canyon that has been built just for you, the off-road driver enjoying outdoor living. As you will see, it has been specially designed for the trail and is like the young sibling of the popular GMC Sierra 1500 AT4. Head on over to Frank Kent Country, where we showcase all the wonderful GMC trucks for sale, including the all-new 2021 GMC Canyon AT4, which should arrive at our dealership any day. Come in and see for yourself that if you love off-roading as much as we do, then the Canyon AT4 is the only choice for your next truck. Let’s take a look to see why.
Two Engines to Choose From
The engineers at GMC knew what they were doing when they chose the engines for the Canyon AT4. They decided to go for engines that would provide the maximum horsepower and torque so that the on and off-road performance wouldn’t suffer. However, they also chose engines that would be fuel-efficient so you can spend more time driving your all-new 2021 GMC Canyon AT4, and less time hanging around at the gas station.
The standard engine is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that can produce up to 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. This engine has been noted to provide exceptional acceleration in the neighborhood of 0 to 60 mph in less than 6.5 seconds. That is the power you need to speed over ruts and dunes with your Canyon AT4, and truly impressive for a midsize truck. The second engine option is a 2.8-liter I-4 Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine. This engine is not only fuel-efficient but also seriously powerful, with 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. That will easily get your Canyon AT4 up and over the steepest boulder while giving you the strength to tow some heavy trailers. It is great to see General Motors offering the Canyon AT4 with a diesel engine option, as this provides buyers with a broader range of performance in this regard.
Built for the Trail
The 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 has plenty of features that make it the ideal truck for hitting the trail. It starts with a set of 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Tires on its unique 17-inch aluminum wheels. These will give the AT4 plenty of ground clearance. Plus, this is a four-wheel drive beast with an off-road-tuned suspension and advanced hill descent control that provides the maneuverability so your truck can get down off any hill or rock without too much difficulty. The advanced hill descent control provides power and braking to each wheel individually so the AT4 won’t slip or skid on the way down. Basically, each wheel can work independently of the other, not unlike a big cat clawing its way down from a tight spot.
The Eaton G80 rear automatic locking differential and 2-speed AutoTrac transfer case give you the traction you need to get through the most daunting off-road challenges. GMC has also placed skid plates on the Canyon AT4, such as over the AutoTrac transfer case, to provide better protection. Red recovery hooks that not only look great but also provide assistance in difficult spots help to complete the package. As Duncan Aldred makes clear, “This is a truck created with outdoor adventurers in mind. The Canyon AT4 is a perfect complement to the driver’s other passions and appreciation of the details, whether that’s a mountain bike, a snowboard, or their truck.”
This truck shows that it means business when you look at it from the outside. There are dark chrome finishes, and an aggressive new black chrome grille and surround with a red and silver GMC logo and unique AT4 badging. The 2021 GMC Canyon AT4 has a unique look from any other trim on the Canyon, helping it to stand out from the crowd. It will also give it a much different look from other trims of the GMC Canyon.
The Canyon AT4 comes in Summit White with four available premium colors. Desert Sand Metallic gives it a real military look, especially if you are going to use this truck on the dunes. Satin Steel Metallic makes the Canyon AT4 look futuristic, not unlike something out of the Road Warrior. Onyx Black makes the Canyon AT4 look sleek, great if you want to hit the town after a hard day of off-roading. Cayenne Red Tintcoat gives is a hot, fast look, so it looks to be moving even when you’ve got your Canyon AT4 in park. Whichever color you choose, you are sure to turn heads as you power past the competition in your Canyon AT4, whether on the highway or the trail.
Rugged and Luxurious Interior
The bold and tough exterior of the Canyon AT4 carries over to its crew cab. Going with a crew cab, General Motors has decided to maximize the cabin space for the Canyon AT4’s five passengers. This means that the three rear-seat passengers will be as comfortable as possible, even if you try to make them uncomfortable with some of your off-road adventures.
The first thing you are sure to notice about the interior of the Canyon AT4 is the dark aluminum finishes, with unique Kalahari stitching and an AT4 embroidered headrest on the comfortable seats. Premium leather front seats will be available as well as a luxury option. These seats don’t just look good, they feel good too, as the Canyon AT4 features heated front seats and an available heated steering wheel.
Finally, the Canyon AT4 will provide entertainment not just when you drive it, but also with its premium infotainment system. This system features an 8-inch color touchscreen with downloadable apps as well as USB ports, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Drivers will also have the option to add the Waze navigation system, wireless smartphone charging so you can dispense with USB cables, and a Bose premium audio system. This Bose system will provide the perfect soundtrack as you and your friends hit the road (or the off-road) with your all-new 2021 GMC Canyon AT4. Now you just have to decide on the theme music for your all-new off-road capable truck.
General Motors has not yet announced an MSRP for the 2021 GMC Canyon AT4, but this announcement will be made fairly soon. The company is hoping to have these trucks in dealerships by mid-summer so that you and your friends and family can really enjoy them during prime off-roading season.
