A black 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500HD, available in the coming months at a Chevy Dealership, is driving past farm fencing near Corsicana, TX.

As we ease into summer, everyone here at our Chevy dealership is abuzz about our new arrivals, and we agree it’s impossible to pick a favorite among all the 2020 choices. But the 2020 Silverado HD is one of the strongest contenders with upgrades and new features from bumper to bumper that change the world of hauling, towing, and how much enjoyment the right truck can bring into your life. For starters, there are five stunning trims this year, and at least one of them is guaranteed to spark your interest.

The Trims:

Work Truck: There’s nothing “basic” about this base model. With a distinctive black flow-through grille bar featuring the definitive Chevrolet emblem, this trim comes standard with 17-inch wheels on 2500HD and 3500HD models and brawny dual rear wheels (DRW); single rear wheel 3500HD trims have 18-inch wheels all around.

Custom: A new member of the new Silverado HD family and exclusive on 2500HD, Custom trims include standard 20-inch wheels and finessed body accent colors that define the eye-catching design.

LT: Passers-by will do a double take of the bright chrome-trimmed vertical grill on the LT that sports the iconic Chevrolet flow-through ID. This year’s LT includes 17- and 18-inch aluminum wheels respectively on the 2500 HD and 3500 HD SRW and 17-inch steel wheels on the 3500HD DRW trims.

LTZ: Extolling the power of dazzling trim, the brilliant LTZ grille includes the famous flow-through Chevrolet insignia highlighted by chrome-laden grille inserts. This trim is heavy on LED, incorporating the technology in its reflector headlamps, running lights, and tail lamps. 2500HD and 3500HD SRW trims come standard with 18-inch aluminum wheels or you can go big with 20-inch wheels. If the 17-inch steel wheels on the 3500HD DRW aren’t your style, you can upgrade to 17-inch polished forged-aluminum wheels.

High Country: With a face you’ve gotta love, the High Country forges forward with the most striking grille in the collection, emphasizing the Chevy bowtie surrounded by a glowing two-tone frame bathed in LED lighting. Twenty-inch polished aluminum wheels are standard on the 2500HD and 3500HD SRW models and the 3500HD DRW rolls on distinctive 17-inch polished forged-aluminum wheels.

Highlights of the New 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD

A fresh, commanding 6.6L V-8 gas engine pumped up with express injection for superior performance and strapping trailering ability attributed to 22 percent more torque and up to 18 percent more towing capability than the model’s previous 6.0L engine.

A match made in Chevy heaven: A newly introduced Allison 10-speed automatic transmission paired with an optional Duramax 6.6L V-8 Turbo-Diesel engine. This partnership increases your towing capability by an amazing 52 percent increase to 35,500 pounds on select models.

The new Silverado’s Advanced Trailering System is nothing short of miraculous. You can have up to 15 accessible camera views of your trailer with cutting edge options including HD Surround Vision, so you can confidently go any direction you need to get your trailer exactly where you want it fast and easy. Another incredible trailering addition is a transparent trailer element that lets you see through the trailer to the other side without walking around it.

Pulling trailers typically involves driving on all types of roads and surfaces and the 2020 4X4 Silverado makes those trips easier with an Autotrac active two-speed transfer that automatically controls the “4 Auto” mode, an amazing tool that effortlessly shifts between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive depending on the condition of the road you’re driving on.

Easy access to all parts of your vehicle are important and time-saving. This year’s Silverado has a newly relocated engine-block heater that’s easy to reach. Designers moved the engine-block heater outlet to an external position on the driver’s side of the truck, incorporated into the front bumper. You’ll never have to open the hood for a plug-in or deal with dangling cords. The block heater is standard on diesels as well as an option on the 6.6L gas engine. The Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank is now hidden and further back on the frame, with the fuel spout easier to access and an easy-to-read electronic fluid level gauge.

While this might not be a priority in the Dallas, Texas area, plowing snow has never been easier. The retooled front end of the 2020 Silverado HD makes skid plate and air dam removal easier and attaching the plow hardware a snap – no more drilling holes in the front bumper either. When the weather clears, no evidence of the plow blade use is evident. If you ever find yourself up North in a blizzard or if you are planning a big move, you will be all set and ready to help plow.

It’s all about lights and mirrors. The newly designed trailering mirrors are bigger, have better perimeter lighting, and come standard on all 2500HD and 3500HD trims. You can adjust them manually or electronically from the driver’s seat with a simple four-bar-link configuration. The new Silverados also have handy 45-degree angle spot lamps that shed lots of light on job sites or camping spots.

There can never be too much space in the cab, and the 2020 Crew Cabs added 3 inches to the length. The 2020 Silverado HD even goes as far as to make hard-to-reach cargo a problem of the past. The 2020 Silverado BedStep and CornerSteps are better designed, larger for easy access, and hold an incredible 500 lbs of whatever you’re hauling.

Research shows that over 90 percent of heavy-duty truck owners use their vehicles for trailering. With that in mind, the designers of the 2020 Silverado HD incorporated features that make towing safer and easier to monitor, giving you peace of mind to enjoy every mile of your trip, whether it’s local or cross-country.

The Advanced Trailering System remembers the weight of the last load on specific trailers through an improved incorporated trailer brake controller.
With an upgraded Tow/Haul feature, your new Silverado will stay in that mode for up to four hours after your initial run and alert you of its status before you get back on the road. There should be no more worries about your truck moving while you’re hooking up your trailer. The Auto Park Brake Assist automatically engages the electronic parking brake for your safety.

When you have to park your truck on a grade, you can rest assured it won’t move with the new Park Grade Hold Assist feature that locks all four wheels to prevent motion even for long periods of downtime.

Even the curviest, most challenging highways are a breeze to manipulate with Enhanced Digital Variable Steering Assist that includes special features like road pull compensation. Challenging grades are easily traversed with Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control, you can count on stopping and slowing down with ease using the Auto Grade Braking and Diesel Exhaust Braking, and your trailer is protected by Trailer Sway Control and Proactive Rollover Avoidance features.
